The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Video review technology will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Competitors are granted the right to contest specific rulings made by the official, echoing the system currently in operation at each of the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development follows just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the call of the ELC system, but they can request the official to re-examine other situations, including:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Notably, there is no cap on the number of challenges a player can request.
Case in Point
A recent case took place in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was responsible for hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. It was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
